Re imagining a classic story is a challenge, especially one that has been done so many times as Moby Dick, by so many brilliant illustrators (Look up Dino Battaglia’s 1967 version!).
For my take on the illustration I choose to exaggerate the whale’s physical presence to supernatural proportions, and making the boat literally slide towards the confrontation. I then tried to offset Captain Ahab's beyond-caring body language with the crew's reluctance as the boat is about to be plunged forward.
